Lisa Johansson-Pape graduated as a furniture designer in 1927. She had a long, varied and illustrious career in design. Johansson-Pape’s furniture was highly functional, with the durability of the underlying structure being the basis for their design. In 1942, she began her career as a lighting designer and designed several design luminaires in the style of the time, including for Stockmann-Orno. The main materials used in her luminaires were enamelled metal, acrylic and glass. In Johansson-Pape’s luminaires, technical functionality and practicality in the space to be illuminated were the priorities. She designed luminaires and other lighting for several types of large spaces in Finland, such as hospitals, churches and even ships. Johansson-Pape was the artistic director of the Friends of Finnish Handicrafts along with her other works from 1951 to 1985, and she was also known as a designer of textiles, rugs and carpets.
